  • Hi everyone,

We are very excited to let you know the plans for our September Sarasota Bromeliad Society meeting.  Bruce Holst will be giving us a private tour of Phase 1 of the Marie Selby Botanical Garden’s Master Plan.

Our new members may not know that Bruce Holst is the Vice-President for Botany at MSBG and a longtime member of the Sarasota Bromeliad Society.  We are very grateful to Bruce and Selby for providing us with this unique opportunity!

Bruce has asked that I provide him with a number of how many members are expected to attend. Depending on how many members attend we may need to split into two groups.  Please RSVP by responding to the evite you should have received — or by contacting us through the Contact Page on this website.

Park in the garage on Orange Ave, as usual, and we will meet in the welcome center (new ticket area).  We will not be meeting in the Great Room this month.

The doors to the welcome plaza and gallery will open at 6PM.  Currently we are not planning to have snacks, Show and Tell or Raffle plants at this meeting.

Look for more details about this meeting and our October and November meetings in our upcoming newsletter.  If you don't already have my personal contact information, you can reach me with any questions you may have by way of the Contact Page on this website.

    Thank you,
    Marian Kennell,
    SBS President

A Message From Marian Kennell, SBS President:

    Hi everyone,

In lieu of a May meeting of the SBS, there will be a Celebration of Life for Eva Talbert taking place in the Great Room for her friends and family in the Sarasota area. Eva's friend and caregiver Sara Espinosa-DeGodoi is organizing the event.

Eva was a much loved and long-time member of the Sarasota Bromeliad Society. Because many of our members knew Eva, Sara asked that I make sure that our members know that they are welcome to attend.

An evite will be going out this week to get an idea of how many people will attend to help Sara plan the event. There will be a buffet catered by Michael's on East.

Our next meeting will be on June 10, 2024. Tom Wolfe will give a presentation on Florida Native Bromeliads.

    Sincerely,
    Marian Kennell
    President SBS
